We were over .500 the first day of May, but just barely. We went 6-5, which isn’t bad, but not where we want to be. 15 more games today, so let’s go!
Washington at Cincinnati:
With Hunter Greene going for the Reds, this is an easy pick. The man picked up a quality start at Coors Field his last time out, so you know he is pitching well. Pick: Cincinnati
San Diego at Pittsburgh:
Dylan Cease has not gotten off to the start he wanted to this year. He has an ERA of almost six, and now he starts for the Padres against the Pirates. The Pirates offense presents a good chance for him to get right, and he will deliver. Pick: San Diego
Arizona at Philadelphia:
The Diamondbacks reward for taking a series in Queens against the Mets is a trip to Philadelphia to face the Phillies. Philadelphia’s best pitcher is throwing today, and you would be surprised to find out that is Jesus Luzardo. Luzardo will lead the Phillies to a win in the opener of this series. Pick: Philadelphia
Kansas City at Baltimore:
The Royals are the hottest team in baseball right now, having gone 9-1 in their last ten games. Now they head to Baltimore to face a reeling Orioles team. Kansas City will stay hot and get the win today. Pick: Kansas City
Tampa Bay at New York Yankees:
The Rays are now getting to the meat of their schedule, facing the Yankees in the Bronx. After 22 of their first 31 games have been spent at home, Tampa Bay now heads to New York to face a Yankees team that is mashing once again. Combine that with Max Fried pitching today, and you have a lock for the Yankees to win. Pick: New York Yankees (Lock)
Cleveland at Toronto:
Toronto is starting to turn it around, having won their last two after losing six of the previous seven. Now they turn to probably their best starting pitcher, Chris Bassitt, to keep the winning streak going. We think that will happen. Pick: Toronto
Minnesota at Boston:
This is a tough won for us. The Twins just got swept by the Guardians, while the Red Sox lost two out of three to the Blue Jays. The difference for us as that Minnesota has been god awful on the road this year, with a 4-13 record in the first month of the season. For that reason, give us the Red Sox. Pick: Boston
Athletics at Miami:
The Athletics are one of the surprises of the first month of the season, holding their heads above water in a tough American League West. Miami has not been as good, which everyone expected. The Athletics are starting Gunnar Hoglund, who will be making his Major League debut. We like the Marlins today. Pick: Miami
Los Angeles Angels at Atlanta:
When these two teams squared off earlier this season, the Braves were embarrassed in a three game sweep. They have since turned their season around a bit, but are still two games under .500. With Yoshinobu Yamamoto throwing for the Los Angeles, the dominance of the Braves will continue. Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers
Houston at Chicago White Sox:
You heard it here first. The White Sox will not get swept in this series. They also will not win today. Pick: Houston
Seattle at Texas:
Bryan Woo returns to the scene of his Major League debut, which was a rough one. The Rangers haven’t figured out how to beat the Mariners lately, including getting swept in Seattle earlier this year. They will figure it out today with Jack Leiter on the mound. Pick: Texas
Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee:
Ben Brown honestly should have a worse record than 2-2, but he has gotten a lot of run support, including two games where the Cubs won by a combined 34-3. That won’t happen today as the Brewers get the win. Pick: Milwaukee
New York Mets at St. Louis:
How will the Mets respond after their first home losing series of the season? That will be interesting as they head to St. Louis to face a Cardinals team that is really good at home. Both starting pitchers have gotten off to strong starts this season, but it will be the Mets bats that lead them to victory today. Pick: New York Mets
Detroit at Los Angeles Angels:
Tarik Skubal against a struggling Angels team that has lost six games in a row? Easy pick. Pick: Detroit
Colorado at San Francisco:
Don’t look now but the Rockies won back to back games for the first time this season! It will end today at the hands of Robbie Ray and the Giants. Pick: San Francisco
Happy picking everyone!
