Full slate of NFL games and NBA games today, so another good day to put your feet up and watch some sports. Let’s get to it!
NBA:
Brooklyn at San Antonio (-10.5):
The Wemby tour continues as Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs host the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn has a completely new roster, and they are going to be a rough watch all year. Any time Wemby is on the court it is must see tv, and today is no different. The Spurs will roll in this one. Pick: San Antonio 124 Brooklyn 102 (Win)
Boston at Detroit (-3.5):
We have gone with the Pistons in both games this year. We are not picking them in game three. We are going to ride with the Celtics to hit a bunch of threes and push the pace, and escape Detroit with a win. Pick: Boston 114 Detroit 107 (Loss)
Milwaukee at Cleveland (-6.5):
These two Central Division rivals have made for some good games in the past. We don’t think today will be any different. We expect a low scoring, defensive struggle with the Cavaliers having enough to get the win. Pick: Cleveland 97 Milwaukee 93 (Win)
New York (-2.5) at Miami:
We are higher on the Heat than most, but we think the Knicks are the class of the Eastern Conference. We aren’t going to pick them in every game, but we are going to take them in this one. Even though it is in South Beach, we are going to ride with New York. Pick: New York 112 Miami 104 (Loss)
Charlotte at Washington (-2.5):
Both of these teams are terrible. Charlotte is less terrible so even though this game is in Washington, we are going to ride with the Hornets. Pick: Charlotte 114 Washington 99 (Win)
Indiana at Minnesota (-12.5):
Indiana played in Memphis last night, then had to hop on a plane and head to Minnesota right after the game. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves didn’t play yesterday and this game is at home. This smells like a big win for the home team. Pick: Minnesota 123 Indiana 107 (Loss)
Toronto (-1.5) at Dallas:
The Cooper Flagg era is underway in Dallas, and now the Raptors head to Texas to meet their fate. Toronto has been playing better than we anticipated, but we still like the Mavericks to take this one at home. Pick: Dallas 108 Toronto 102 (Win)
Portland at Los Angeles Clippers (-8.5):
The Clippers are still playing like they have other stuff on their mind, and honestly who can blame them. This is the time to play these guys, as the distraction is becoming too much. We like the Blazers to not only cover, but win outright. Pick: Portland 110 Los Angeles Clippers 103 (Win)
Los Angeles Lakers (-2.5) at Sacramento:
Even without LeBron James, the Lakers have a better roster than the Kings. Sacramento can’t stop anyone on defense, and while the Lakers don’t have a strong defense either, it is still better than the Kings. We think this will be a high scoring affair, but we are going with the Lakers. Pick: Los Angeles Lakers 132 Sacramento 124 (Win)
NFL:
Miami at Atlanta (-7.5):
The Falcons are really good at home and abominable on the road. Miami is abominable no matter where they are playing. Fortunately for Atlanta, this is a home game, which means that the Falcons will roll and the Dolphins will finally fire Mike McDaniel. Pick: Atlanta 31 Miami 13 (Loss)
New York Jets at Cincinnati (-6.5):
With Joe Flacco at quarterback, the Cincinnati Bengals look like a competent football team. That is much better than we can say for a Jets team, that has benched Justin Fields and is now starting Tyrod Taylor. Taylor has limited upside, and Flacco has Jamarr Chase to throw the ball too, so we are going with the Bengals to cover. Pick: Cincinnati 27 New York Jets 14 (Loss)
Cleveland at New England (-7.5):
New England is the better team, but don’t sleep on the defense for the Cleveland Browns. Even though they are 2-5, that are allowing just over 20 points a game. The problem for the Browns is their offense isn’t very good. We like the Patriots to win, but the Browns to keep it within one score. Pick: New England 23 Cleveland 20 (Loss)
New York Giants at Philadelphia (-7.5)
This is a revenge game for an Eagles team that just lost to the Giants a couple weeks ago. Philadelphia will not let their foot off the gas the whole game, and while we think the Giants are an interesting team, they are not good enough to keep up with the Eagles. Give us Philadelphia to cover. Pick: Philadelphia 34 New York Giants 24 (Win)
Buffalo (-7.5) at Carolina:
Carolina is 3-0 at home this year, and now face their stiffest test of the season in the Buffalo Bills. We don’t think that the Panthers will stay undefeated after this week, but this game will be closer than people think. Carolina covers. Pick: Buffalo 24 Carolina 20 (Loss)
Chicago at Baltimore (-6.5):
We think that this the week the Ravens turn their season around. They are coming off their bye and Lamar Jackson is back and almost fully healthy. If they are going to make a move this season it has to start now. The Bears have won four in row, but none of their wins have been impressive. We like the Ravens to cover. Pick: Baltimore 27 Chicago 17 (Win)
San Francisco at Houston (-2.5):
How the Niners keep doing this with all their injuries we don’t know. Mac Jones has looked like a competent quarterback under Kyle Shanahan, which is a miracle of itself. The other shoe will drop at some point for San Francisco. We think this is the week. The Texans defense is good, and CJ Stroud will make enough plays to cover this spread. Pick: Houston 24 San Francisco 16 (Win)
Tampa Bay (-4.5) at New Orleans:
Look, we know the Buccaneers are hurt at receiver and are coming off their worst game of the season, but this line is way too low. The New Orleans Saints are bad, and Spencer Rattler is not an NFL quarterback. Not only will Tampa Bay get back in the win column, they will do so comfortable. Pick: Tampa Bay 33 New Orleans 13 (Win)
Dallas at Denver (-3.5)
The fact that Denver needed to score 33 points in the fourth quarter to escape the New York Giants is not a good look. Yes, they won the game but they need to start scoring earlier. Fortunately they are playing a Dallas defense that couldn’t stop a Pee Wee team. This will be a high scoring affair, but the Denver defense will make enough plays to cover the spread. Pick: Denver 37 Dallas 31 (Win)
Tennessee at Indianapolis (-14.5):
We have been picking a lot of favorites so far this week. We are going to go against the grade and take an underdog to cover. The Titans will not win this game, but we can see them scoring late to cover the spread. Pick: Indianapolis 34 Tennessee 20 (Loss)
Green Bay (-2.5) at Pittsburgh:
The Aaron Rodgers revenge tour continues as the Steelers host the Packers on Sunday Night Football. He looked amazing against another one of his former teams, and the Green Bay defense has looked shakier and shakier as the season has gone on. We can’t believe we are doing this, but give us Pittsburgh to not only cover, but win. Pick: Pittsburgh 23 Green Bay 20 (Loss)
Happy picking everyone!
