Full slate of basketball, plus one NFL game today to get yourselves going. We have some games under our belt, and expect a lot of improvement starting today!
NBA:
Cleveland (-2.5) at Detroit:
Both of these teams come in with identical 2-1 records, but Cleveland has played tougher teams. Even though this game is in Detroit, we are going to go with the Cavalier to cover. Pick: Cleveland 113 Detroit 106 (Win)
Orlando (-6.5) at Philadelphia:
The 76ers are 2-0 to start the season, and the reason why is the play of their back court. VJ Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey have been unstoppable the first two games of the season, and we see no reason that won’t continue today. Orlando is a decent sized favorite on the road, but we are riding the hot hand of Philadelphia. Pick: Philadelphia 109 Orlando 102 (Win)
Atlanta (-2.5) at Chicago:
The other undefeated team in the Eastern Conference is the Chicago Bulls. They have two wins over playoff teams from a year ago, and we think it will be 3 for 3 after tonight. We like Chicago to take down the Hawks at home. Pick: Chicago 121 Atlanta 114 (Win)
Brooklyn at Houston (-15.5):
This line is way too high. We know the Rockets are good and the Nets are not, but 15 points this early in the season is a crazy amount. We will take the points as the Nets lose, but cover. Pick: Houston 117 Brooklyn 107 (Loss)
Boston (-1.5) at New Orleans:
There are four teams in the NBA that haven’t won a game yet this season. These are two of them. We knew that the Celtics would take a step back without Jayson Tatum, and the Pelicans are a mystery to everyone. One of these teams will get their first win of the season, and we are going with the favorite to get it done. Pick: Boston 120 New Orleans 111 (Win)
Toronto at San Antonio (-4.5):
The Wemby train keeps rolling, with the next stop being north of the border. We are going to ride the hot hand until it loses, so we are going to take the Spurs to cover at home against the Raptors. Pick: San Antonio 128 Toronto 114 (Win)
Oklahoma City (-9.5) at Dallas:
Cooper Flagg looked great in his last game, scoring 22 points and leading the Mavericks to their first win of the season. Dallas has played all three of their games at home this season, and have another one in Dallas today against the Thunder. The Thunder are undefeated so far this year, and we think that will continue, but it will be by single digits. Give us Dallas to cover. Pick: Oklahoma City 112 Dallas 106 (Win)
Phoenix at Utah (-1.5):
These are two teams that most experts predicted would be at the bottom of the standings all year long. The Jazz so far look like the better team, so we are going to go with them to get the win at home. Pick: Utah 105 Phoenix 100 (Win)
Denver (-6.5) at Minnesota:
With Anthony Edwards missing this game, this is an easy pick for us. The Timberwolves are a good team, but Edwards takes them to another level. We see the Nuggets running away with this one. Pick: Denver 125 Minnesota 108 (Win)
Memphis at Golden State (-8.5):
We think this line is too high. Memphis has been playing good basketball, and Cedric Coward looks like one of the steals of the draft. The rookie from Washington State is averaging 19 points and shooting over 70% from the field. While that won’t continue all season, he will help lead the Grizzlies to a close loss today. Pick: Golden State 116 Memphis 112 (Loss)
Portland (-2.5) at Los Angeles Lakers:
The Lakers are missing both LeBron James and Luca Doncic in this one. Austin Reaves scored 51 points in their last game, but that won’t happen again today. Give us the road Blazers to cover at Staples Center against a banged up Lakers team. Pick: Portland 109 Los Angeles Lakers 103 (Win)
NFL:
Washington at Kansas City (-10.5):
Even if Jayden Daniels was playing, we would consider the Chiefs by double digits. Since Daniels isn’t playing, this is an easy pick for us. Mahomes and the Chiefs are playing too well, and they will continue that momentum with a comfortable win today. Pick: Kansas City 34 Washington 20 (Win)
Happy picking everyone!
